A Royal welcome for Highlands at the King’s Garden Party

Scottish Breeding Adviser, Angus MacGillivray was honoured to attend The King’s annual Garden Party at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh, held during Royal Week in Scotland.

The annual occasion brings together thousands of guests from across Scottish life and forms part of the Monarch’s traditional week of engagements celebrating Scottish culture, achievement, and community.

The occasion also carries particular meaning for those connected to Highland Cattle. His Majesty King Charles III has continued the Royal Family’s long-standing support of Scotland’s agricultural and rural communities, including patronage of the Highland Cattle Society among others.

For Angus, the invitation was a significant moment, recognising a lifetime of connection to Highland Cattle, Scottish agriculture, and rural stewardship. Angus is a sixth-generation Highland Cattle breeder, shaped by decades of practical stockmanship on Scotland’s west coast, while Inga supports the organisation and stewardship of Blasta Mhor’s UK activities with clarity, care, and discipline.

“Highland cattle have given me a lifetime of work, learning, and enjoyment. To be invited to an occasion like this is very humbling, but the real honour is being connected to a breed that has meant so much to my family for generations.”

The Palace of Holyroodhouse, at the foot of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile, stands at the centre of Royal Week, where The King welcomes around 8,000 guests to the palace gardens in recognition of service and contribution across Scotland.

Angus’ attendance reflects the depth of heritage behind the breed. Highland Cattle are part of Scotland’s agricultural history, shaped through function, resilience, and generations of careful selection.

Through advocacy and attendance, Blasta Mhor continues to honour the standards, heritage, and responsibility that sit behind true Highland breeding.
